With an increasing number of states legalizing recreational and medicinal marijuana, many employers are questioning the necessity for drug screening in the workplace.

Marijuana use is still illegal from a federal perspective, and even if it becomes legal in the future, there are some valid reasons for continuing a drug-screening program. According to a poll by the Society of Human Resource Management, 16% of organizations saw a decrease in turnover rates after implementing a drug-screening program; 19% of them experienced an increase in productivity after the initiation of such a program.
