Supervisors in Linn County, Iowa’s second largest county, have agreed to ban the box  for those seeking employment with the county.  While the county will continue to require background checks for workers who are around vulnerable populations, such as law enforcement and daycare, it will not ask applicants about a criminal background in either an initial interview or job application form.

Marking the box ‘yes’ to a criminal history makes it tough for applicants to get hired, and within minutes of passing the resolution the line about criminal history was removed from Linn County’s online application form.
